I get asked all the time, how much does a swimming pool cost? There are so many determining factors that can dictate how much an inground pool costs that there really is no easy answer to the question. The answer is (drumroll) it depends. Depends on what? Well let’s get into it. Here are a few things that can ultimately determine how much that pool is going to cost you out the door.

PoolCost.com is a new real time Pool Calculator that tells you how much an inground pool costs in real time
  1. Labor / Subcontractor base
In many markets the subcontractor base for skilled labor such as masonry, concrete work, steel / rebar, tile and coping and the like is scarce. As such, this definitely will have an impact on the price of a pool.
  2. Swim Season
How much use the homeowners is likely to get from their pool will impact the demand in a given market and ultimately impact how many companies there are servicing that demand. In a market like Phoenix, where the swim season is practically year round, there are potentially a thousand different pool companies or more. This ultimately drives the price of a pool down.
  3. Cost for Building Permits
In many markets you can expect to tack on an extra $3,000-$5,000 for a pool building permit before you even break ground. This is definitely coming as a sticker shock to potential pool buyers this season.
  4. Dig Schedule
Many builders are simply at capacity right now due to the pandemic. Consequently, pool buyers face a dilemma where they have cash in hand but there is simply no room on the dig schedule to accomodate building their pool til next year.
